Early morning really is the best time to schedule beach portraits. There's no one around, the wind isn't rough, and no one's grumpy from a long day of sun and water. Around 6:15am, I got a text from my client, letting me know that there was significant thunder and lightning where they were staying. There were clear skies where I was, what was happening? We were staying 30 minutes away and that is a long way when it comes to the weather and the threat it poses.

We decided to take our chances (carefully), since the storm would be moving away from our location soon after 7:00am (our start time). The entire time I was driving to our session, I was praying from safe weather! We had no back up dates between us, this would have to work!

And work it did! You can see in some of the portraits below that the stormy clouds were rolling in while we were shooting, but thankfully nothing dangerous. I was especially happy with the cloud coverage since the week had been dreadfully hot. At one point we all look up toward the ocean to see a dolphin swimming and jumping around. It was a beautiful morning of portraits and I'm thrilled with the results. I always strive to shoot a mixture of moments and portraits; and this family delivered on their part! Let's also not overlook their stellar wardrobe choices!

I'm hopefully for more beach portraits next year and hope to see some new and familiar faces then too!
